Why look past Canva Mockups.

Canva Mockups vs Hauld: the real trade-off
Canva's mockup feature is a smart-object overlay. You drop your artwork onto a fixed studio photo, Canva warps it to fit the surface, and the background stays the same every time. It's fast, it's already in the editor you're using, and part of the library sits behind Canva Pro, a subscription. The catch is that the underlying photos are shared across everyone on Canva, so your mug or tote can land in the same shot a lot of other shops are using.
Hauld works the other way around. Instead of pasting your design onto a stock photo, it renders seven scenes from scratch with Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model, keeps the best five, color-grades the batch, and upscales to 2048px. The prompt asks the model to keep your artwork as uploaded on the product surface, while the room, the light, and the composition are generated fresh each run. That means more visual variety per design and photos no one else can download.
Canva pastes your file as it is; Hauld redraws it with the scene, so check each photo before you list it. The honest difference is template-overlay (Canva) versus from-scratch render (Hauld), and a recurring subscription versus a free plan with 10 photos a month.
Switching from Canva, and when to just stay
Moving over takes about a minute. In Canva, export your design as a PNG (transparent background is best), or an SVG if you have one. Then open Hauld, upload that file, pick a product, and generate. On cost, it comes down to how you use Canva.
